What is underground line exposure?
Repairs, tie ins, valve replacements, inspections, and relocations all start with getting the line out of the ground. Digging around a live gas service, a duct bank, or a bundle of fiber with a bucket is how strikes happen. A hydrovac removes the soil with water and air, so the line is uncovered rather than hit.
We expose water, sewer, storm, gas, electric, telecom, and fiber lines, and we size the excavation to the work: a tight hole for an inspection, or a larger, clean excavation with working room for a repair crew.
When you need it
- Exposing a water or sewer main for a tie in or service connection
- Uncovering a leaking line or damaged service for repair
- Excavating around valves, curb stops, and meter assemblies
- Exposing pipe for coating inspection or cathodic protection work
- Uncovering fiber and telecom bundles for splicing or relocation
- Digging next to electrical duct banks and transformers
How we do it
Plan the excavation
We agree on the size of the excavation, the working room your crew needs, and how the line will be supported once exposed.
Excavate around the line
Soil is removed in controlled passes, working from the sides and top of the line rather than straight down onto it.
Clean and hold
The excavation is cleaned to grade and kept dry with the vacuum while your crew works.
Backfill
When the work is done, we backfill and compact to your specification.
Tampa Bay conditions
With a high water table, many Tampa Bay excavations take on water as soon as they get deep. Keeping the vacuum on site during repairs keeps the hole dry and stable, which matters when you are working beside a live line.
What to include in your quote request
The more of this you can share, the faster and more accurate your quote will be:
- Utility type and approximate size
- Depth and the working room your crew needs
- Whether the line is live and any operator requirements
- How long you need the truck on standby during the work
Underground Line Exposure FAQ
Is hydrovac safe around gas lines?
Hydrovac excavation is widely used around gas lines because it avoids mechanical contact. Pressure and technique are adjusted to the utility, and gas operator requirements on site are followed.
Can you keep the hole dry while we work?
Yes. The truck can stay on standby to remove groundwater and slurry while your crew completes the repair.
Can you excavate around fiber optic cable?
Yes. Fiber is one of the most expensive lines to strike, and hydrovac is the standard method for exposing it.
